About Mamandef

Mama Magdalena Ndeda Foundation came into being sometime in the year 2006 when Fr. Rev. Dr. Charles Oloo K’Ochiel in looking back at a lifestyle his late mother Mama Magdalena had lived.

• How she had kept her faith
• How she had lived with a number of orphans under her care regardless of availability or non-availability of food or resources to sustain them.
• How she was prayerful for the LORDS blessings
• How she stood by her advocacy for peace

All these reflections led our patron Fr. Charles to share with a few relatives and friends that something had to be done in memory of the mother –Mama Magdalene.

The journey of the Mamandef Foundation  had begun.

At Mamandef, we have a mission to offer support to orphans and vulnerable children affected by extreme poverty and HIV/AIDS to help them acquire education for positive growth and sustainable development equitable to what other fortunate members of society will possibly achieve.

Relatively since its inception in the early millennium years, the Mamandef foundation has stepped up operations on some of the strategic lines put in place:
• On economic empowerment, we have tried a hand in agriculture where our green house project successfully took off but due to a shortfall with resources and necessary technical back up regrettably things did not go on well.
•  We also mobilized resources towards a poultry project and the chairs for hire to support widows in the community. Again, we realized that this probably came in early before proper mobilization, sensitization and training hence this also stalled.

However inspite of these huddles and against all odds, we moved on well with education sponsorship where we stand proud of the more than forty beneficiaries who are and have gone through primary, high school and college education. A few are now in recognized universities locally and a broad in pursuit of their 1st degrees.
To day, we can see the establishment of the taproot in education – the ECD graduates  is the genesis of St. Magdalene Education Centre. At the centre, we will admit all children of school going age regardless of ethnicity or social status except for special cases of disability that we may not have capacity to handle for the moment. Here we appeal to parents who may afford to continue supporting their children and the centre as they have continued to do thus enabling us achieve our goals; i.e. quality education and good health hence quality members of the community.

Nevertheless, challenges are there and are many.

In as much as we appreciate the donor communities from Itally, America and China and even the board /committee members who volunteered their time and finances and have worked tirelessly to bring us this far not forgetting the local community members who gave relentless support to the establishment we still have along way to go.
The future is much greater than whats done and I say “YES WE CAN!”

As our graduands look forward to getting upgraded, our parents equally pleased with the standards set so far are pushing that the institution advances progressively into primary level of education.
I can say that plans are underway in the same direction and it is our sincere hope that with collaborative support from our community, the relevant authorities, stakeholders and other well-wishers that we may network with, come January 2010 we will have the second face on classrooms come up.          “In a society where education and well being of children becomes the priority of every adult there is enormous HOPE for growth and success”.

As part of our long-term strategy therefore, we will wish to pursue with special interest in youth oriented programmes i.e. carpentry, masonry, tailoring, domestic oriented courses, community training and provide home based care services and further economic empowerment to the community in various disciplines where the poor and socially marginalized shall not remain perpetually vulnerable. More proposals will be floated to various organizations for consideration.

We appeal to the local community is for you to come forward in whatever capacity and morally together, we will synergize on development in this area.
To our friend and supporters we will expect collaborative and positive constructive criticism that accelerate the strategies proposed.

As a board memebers, we are sons and daughters of this community who are concerned about the plight and the vulnerability of our people. Moreover, not necessarily endowed with the technical and financial resources that we direly need to respond to the various concerns. We need each other on this journey.
We recognize and appreciate that among our guests and members of this community, we have resourceful people in various fields, finance and technical and otherwise who if brought together will make a significant difference in the life of our people.

In relation to all these as an immediate project, we intend to put up more classrooms as mentioned earlier to cater for today’s graduands and those who will come to join. For this, we have organist a funds drive in Kisumu at St.Theresa’s Cathedral hall-Kibuye on the 12th of December 2009 commencing at 3.00pm.All are WELCOME
